Hot Spot: Aberdeen Helicopters Ltd.
For the past 17 years, Aberdeen Helicopters Ltd. has been proudly operating in central BC, providing thrilling experiences to sightseers and timely transportation to commercial users on a daily basis. Locally owned, the business began out of the passion that Peter McGill, the chief pilot, has for flying and helicopters. The hardworking team at Aberdeen now collaborates on each trip to ensure that customers receive the safest, most appropriate aircraft and equipment for their mission, and superior customer service throughout their adventure.
Aberdeen’s Flightseeing Tours allow customers to enjoy the scenic landscapes that our area has to offer without disrupting the natural beauty of the wilderness. From the Fort George Canyon to Fang Cave, helicopters are the best way to reach many of the inaccessible locations of the great BC outdoors. Locals can even get a glimpse of their own homes from high above the city. If sport fishing is of interest, Aberdeen also offers heli-fishing Adventure Packages where enthusiasts can be dropped in to a remote alpine lake or pristine river for day or overnight trips.
Recognizing the importance of giving back to our community, Aberdeen recently gave the students at Edgewood Elementary a welcome surprise at Christmastime. The children all worked diligently for weeks to collect non-perishable food items and warm coats for the St Vincent De Paul Society. On December 15th, the dedicated principal, teachers, and some hardworking parents of Edgewood gathered the children in a line at the back of the school while the pile of donations lay in the distance, neatly packed and waiting in a cargo net.
Not knowing what to expect, the kids roared with excitement as Santa and an elf flew into view and landed long enough for the elf to leave treats to the kids. An extra special helper hooked up the net full of donations to the helicopter, which then flew off to deposit the collected goods with volunteers who safely drove the food to the shelter for distribution.
It took the combined approval of Transport Canada, the RCMP, the City of Prince George, and of course, the principal of the school to make this happen but it was enormously successful — the kids were thrilled and the shelter received plenty of much-needed donations.
