Summer in the City!

From tiny neighbourhood hideaways to sprawling all-day adventures, more than 120 parks call Prince George home - and that's just within city limits.

Playgrounds, a waterspray park, picnic facilities, beautiful hilltop flower gardens, bird-watching opportunities or a simple nature walk. Each park and every trail offers its own unique glimpse into this city of nature. If you are looking for a guided nature hike, check out Good Sir Nature Park which offers over 200 species of plants and over 3kms of trails.

And for those who want to get away from it all and still be home in time for dinner and a hot tub, a number of lakefront beaches, riverside rambles and forest walks can be found within 30 kilometres (20 miles) of town. Click here to view the list of summer hikes headed by the Caledonia Ramblers.

If you enjoy communing with nature of a groomed kind, you'll think you've died and gone to golf heaven when you arrive in Prince George. The city is fast becoming the golfing destination of northern British Columbia, with seven courses offering over 30,000 yards of fairway to challenge any skill level.

Try your hand at Geo-caching; a great way to learn how to use your GPS and explore our city. Check out www.geocaching.com for coordinates and other information.

Spend a few hours fishing at one or many of our numerous lakes and streams within an hour of Prince George city limits. You don't have to picbe an expert fisherman to enjoy one of the most popular activities in Northern British Columbia. Head out with one of our experienced fishing guides and take in the spectacular scenery while you reel in your catch of the day. Or visit us at Tourism Prince George where we can lend you a fishing rod, help you obtain a fishing license, and recommend prime fishing spots for the day.

Start your engines and get ready for some high-octane action at the Prince George Auto Racing Association (PGARA) oval and the North Central Motorsport Park (NCMP) drag strip. PGARA hosts stock car races all summer long, while NCMP runs a regular schedule of drag races throughout the summer, including bracket nationals, all-motorcycle drags, street legal nights and even snowmobile drag racing.

If you are looking for fun summer events why not check out the Prince George Exhibition - August 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 2010. This year it will be a celebration of the 98th Exhibition in Prince George!

Book a guided forestry tour with Touchwood Tours and learn about one of BC's famous resources.

Or book a guided horseback trail ride tour near the lake at The Log House Guest Ranch or on the farm with Triple J Ranch!

If you are the adventurous type who likes to go with the flow, try a little heart-stopping river rafting. Three hours east of town you can jump into a raft near the headwaters of the mighty Fraser River with Mount Robson White Water Rafting Co. or Stellar Descents.
