DISCOVER PG  |  CIRCLE TOURS  |  DAY TRIPS

Prince George is the base for many day excursions. Consider the following day trips when coordinating your next visit to the Prince George area...

Walking Tour

Pick up the Urban Tree Tour pamphlet from Tourism Prince George (or click here to download one) and take yourself on a self guided tree tour beginning in Fort George Park. Or take yourself on a self guided tour of Cottonwood Island Park to see if you can spot the faces carved in the trees. Take a lunch break and enjoy any one of our fine restaurants or pack a lunch and picnic atop Connaught Hill Park. In the afternoon pick up a Downtown Historic Walking Tour pamphlet and learn a bit of history about Prince George.

Barkerville

Full day trip. Perhaps the most famous historic site in the central interior, Barkerville has been restored in living colour to the way things were in the heyday of the Gold Rush when it was the largest city north of San Francisco and west of Chicago.

Over 125 heritage buildings dot the site of this historic town two hours southeast of Prince George. Enjoy an evening show of the Fort George Follies when arriving back in Prince George.

Fort St. James National Historic Site

Full day trip. A 90-minute drive from Prince George lands you on the shores of Stuart Lake and another trip back in time at the Fort St. James National Historic Park. Costumed interpreters spend the day just as they did when this Hudson's Bay Company Fort was founded as a fur trading post in 1806 by explorer Simon Fraser, from whom the mighty river got its name.
